Honeymoon Coffee Shop Visits and Reviews
As our honeymoon progressed Jess and I realized we hadn't been to Traverse City so we decided to give it a whirl. We rode with the parents (my new in-laws) and we decided to hit a couple coffee shops and explore a little. We chose Espresso Bay and Crepes and Co for the coffee.
Espresso Bay
The coffee at Espresso Bay has a unique taste. The idea of a lot of flavors is a good idea.
I usually try a shot of espresso first to get a more flavor distinction, but I am unable to give a fair statement. The shot had deflated by the time I got it. Decent work load, but with a line out the door, there was too much going on. They need a workflow they stick to no matter what. Anyways, the americano is good (earthier) they do a triple shot in a 16oz for standard. This neat establishment is super busy, and the quality of coffee isn't horrible. Will have to try more another time.
Jess: The Iced Matcha is WILD. This tastes like no matcha I've ever had, and I'm not sure what to make of it. The matcha still hits you in the back, but mostly it's caramel? Brown sugar? And there's granules of that on the bottom of the drink. They call it sweetened matcha for a reason! This would pair well with something savory, though. Anything to cut that sweetness. It was almost too much for me to finish it before we headed to the next shop.
Crepes and Co.
They offer a large variety of drinks, foods, and entertainment. Traditional in this case is awesome. They make traditional French style coffee and crepes. With the French style coffee I enjoyed the flavor of the coffee and the lady knew how to make it. Wasn't distracted and made a great cup of coffee. I highly recommend giving it a try. I also strayed a little and tried the Chinese Gunpowder. It's a loose leaf green tea (very strong). Tastes wonderful. Definitely recommend if you're a tea drinker!
Jess: He's welcome for the green tea choice. The lady warned me that the Chinese Gunpowder was very strong, but I was up for it. I NEEDED something like this after that super sweet matcha at Espresso Bay. Earthy. My mom said woodsy. Made with real loose leaf, bag left in your cup; like, whole giant shreds of tea leaves in that thing. Easily the best of the two shops we visited, and this coming from a little place sharing space with a bar. Just shows that it really isn't about who's the most hyped, or even who's the busiest shop. It's quality and people there who care enough to uphold it.
